My R33 Skyline

I currently drive this 1996 Nissan Skyline R33 GTS-t (ECR33) and have owned it for 3 or so years. Starting off relatively unmodified with only an exhaust and BOV it has had a complete rebuild with many modifications. The modifications have gone through a number of iterations including the standard turbo, an Apexi turbo kit, a HKS GT-RS and now the GT2835ProS turbo kit all from Nengun.

Performance

After blowing a ringland on the standard engine using the HKS GT-RS turbo the engine now has been completely rebuild by Racepace performance featuring GTR RB26 crank, rods and forged pistons. During the rebuild the GT-RS was replaced with a GT2835ProS turbo kit, which mounts to the standard exhaust manifold and includes a dump pipe, oil & water lines and other short parts for easy installation. After tuning on the Apexi Power FC the power output was ~ 275kw's (370hp) at the rear wheels which should translate to a solid 400hp at the flywheel.

  • Full rebuild using RB26 forged pistons, crankshaft, rods, etc. by Racepace Motorsport
  • Apexi Power FC with Boost Controller and Hand Controller
  • Apexi Power Intake
  • Billion Radiator replacement hoses
  • Custom Candy Apple Rocker Cover

Handling

Future modifications include a set of new lightweight Japanese wheels with semi slicks, upgraded brakes and a number of suspension improvements to add to the Tein coilovers.

  • DBA DB4000 Slotted Rotors
  • Race Brakes RB74 brake pads
  • Cusco Brake Cylinder Stopper

thanks Halooix for checking out my profile, i like the bnr32 gtr better it's more of a race car (it's a beast) the r34 is more of a luxury car but still fun to drive

nice car - looks exactly like my step-dads gts-t, only he had to sell it cause the car costed too much to maintain. Turns out when he got his engine rebuilt they didn't get him his forged pistons and they used cheap japan ones which weren't made right. He babied the car along but eventually the pistons blew. Hope you don't have that kinda trouble with yours.

I never realised how much work had gone into your car! Very nice car!
Are we going to see something similar on the 350Z soon? Haha!
gtrbunny responded on Wednesday, 5th November 2008
Don't want to be too negative about the 350Z but I'd rather sell it and go R34 GTR than modify it. That or strip down the R33 to the shell and build it back up for some more serious work, the brakes need some more as does some of the suspension, but even now it has more grip and corners nicer than the 350Z.

I think the standard tires on the 350Z are a massive let down in particular, you get a little understeer and then oversteer and then the traction control, stability control goes nuts and makes me laugh ;)
EJ20_daze responded on Wednesday, 5th November 2008
Mr. Halooix very nice setup.

My only "comment" is about the inlet and outlet of the intercooler, you should earn travelling distance and some hp by setting the outlet piping from the left (as i look the image). I think in RB engines the intake plenum is from the left (looking as we open the hood).

the wheels are Yokohama AVS?
gtrbunny responded on Thursday, 6th November 2008
Thanks for the comment! I have the Greddy kit that follows the standard intercooler holes and therefore slightly longer piping. Its a tradeoff but means I won't get (as much) grief from the boys in blue for cutting the chassis..

To change it (and I have looked at it because its so much neater!) you are looking at a Greddy or other brand plenum, new intercooler kit and cutting the chassis.

I haven't seen any actual data to support the reduced piping (as it will still be pretty long anyway) has a major improvement on response, air pressure is pretty fast after all ;)

I will get some photos at some stage of the engine bay to help explain. The wheels aren't AVS unfortunately, came from the previous owners and I haven't been able to find much about them. I also had Buddy Club P1's on there with semi's at one stage and liked the look of some of the Weds wheels which have now been discontinued :(
SuperDave responded on Tuesday, 11th November 2008
Not a bad mix of mods there! The power curve looks 'meatier' than mine, haha.

Where abouts in Australia do you come from? Noticed the Commo in the background of the 350z picture ;)
Sylvester responded on Saturday, 20th December 2008
Thanks for the comment on my R32. How do you like your R33? Man you have done some serious stuff to it!
